Ko Olina Lagoon Beach Nourishment
The shoreline in Ko Olina Lagoon 4, eroded by as much as 40 feet in the center of the lagoon. This erosion exposed coral cobbles, rubble and hard bottom, and rendered portions of the beach unusable and hazardous. Sea Engineering was contracted by Ko Olina Resort to design a beach restoration consisting of pumping and excavating sand from offshore of the beach to widen the beach in the center of the lagoon.
The work required included the following tasks:
- Topographic and bathymetric surveys
- Sand thickness probing
- Analysis of the north and south shoals for sand quality and volume as a potential source of fill sand
- Sand dredging and placement on the beach
- Construction engineering assistance
After designing the project, the Sea Engineering Marine Construction Division performed the beach restoration work and provided permit compliance monitoring support during construction.
