Samoa Highway Shore Protection

Sea Engineering has been designing coastal highway shore protection in American Samoa since 1995. Design and construction of these projects have been funded by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and the U.S Army Corps of Engineers has been the design agent for FHWA.  Sea Engineering has been responsible for site investigations, design parameter analysis, engineering design and preparation of construction plans and specifications for the shore protection portions of the projects, as well as Federal permit applications. Difficulty in obtaining suitable stone necessitated the use of concrete armor units and innovative design. Project sites have included: Route 1 the main coastal highway on Tutuila, and at Fagaitua Village and Sailele Village, Vatia Village, Fagasa Village, and the main coastal road on the island of Ta’u.
