Japan Hydrographic Surveys for Combatant Loading Wharf Design

The Urago Ordnance Storage Area, located in Yokosuka, Japan, is used by the U.S. Navy as part of the United States Fleet Activities Yokosuka.  An ammunition wharf to conduct combatant ship ordnance loading and off-loading operations has been proposed as part of the P996 Combatant Loading Wharf project.  In support of the project, Sea Engineering, Inc. was contracted by Environmental Science Corp. and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to conduct hydrographic and geophysical surveys.  The surveys included:

  • Multibeam sonar high-resolution bathymetry
  • Single beam echo sounder
  • Side scan sonar
  • Magnetometer
  • Subbottom profiles
